Jared Kim,

a highly-motivated Photographer & Videographer who takes pride in his craft & connections!

Growing up in the media industry since a tender age of 12 has opened up Jared’s eyes to the world and people around him.

Being a dedicated media professional is more than just being creative and getting good shots. Jared is always on the ball to support his fellow crew and the production, instilling trust others have in his work as well as maintaining connections beyond the technical aspect of the job.

Despite having tried out various forms and genres of media creation such as events, documentary, weddings, cinematics, broadcast, corporate, photography, etc. He will always be hungry for more!

Here are some of his achievements over the years…

Some of my proudest…

Jared’s Reel

Over the years, I have learnt and tried many things and been on many shoots.
Here are some of my favourites!

Proudly mine! (Personal Projects):

Wedding Reel

Though everyone’s ends the day happily ever after, re-visiting what happened on that fateful day 5, 10, 20 years down the road to be able to re-live what happened on that very special day spent with your closest family members and friends will be a touching one. Despite having shot numerous weddings throughout my days, every couple has their own unique “Love Story” to tell and remember for the rest of their marriage!

Proud to be part of!

[不配 Unworthy] M.V. by Tommy Wong

Directed, Shot & Edited by Jared Kim
Co-Shot & Lighting by fellow creative - Chris Lau

Despite being immersed in music since the tender age of 6 years old, it becoming a career never came to fruition. But unable to leave my hobby behind throughout my film-making career, I had an opportunity to mash these skills together in a different way! Alongside one of my O-Level music teachers. I assisted him to produce and shoot this studio-style music video to launch this music video on the mental struggles faced in finding love.

Joanna Dong Concert 2022_大地回春

Directed, Produced, Edited by Yvonne Ling
Telephoto Gimbal & House Left Cam Op - Jared Kim

A Chinese New Year favourite to bring in the festivities by one of Singapore’s local artiste - Joanna Dong! After her success in “Sing! China!” as Jay Chou’s apprentice, Joanna is back on stage after the 3-year-lockdown to welcome the holidays!
It was refreshing to shoot a concert after so long and am honoured to be part of the production crew; to operate a
70-200mm lens on a gimbal for the full-dress rehearsal as well as nail the timings during the live show!

London Beauty

Directed, Produced, Edited by Cool Cheese Productions
Cam B - Jared Kim

My very FIRST overseas job! This overseas opportunity really opened my horizons even more! Pushing me further to film in unknown territory! Exploring unique icons known to London alongside a passionate group of property investors, we went around to iconic spots in London and were awed by the sights and stories from the residents of London!

What my colleagues have to say…

Walter Goh - Post-Production Supervisor of Cool Cheese Productions <- (Click for full letter)

“Jared was always on task while on set and was attentive to the needs of his team members around him, lending a helping hand whenever he could and making sure our productions went smooth… He is attentive to detail and has never missed a beat when it came time for milestones and project deliverables.”

Aaron Char - Volunteer Leader of Trinity Christian Center Paya Lebar <- (Click for full letter)

“For me, what sets Jared apart is his willingness to learn. A skill set that can be thought and picked up; but a humble and willing attitude is not so easily caught. I believe this attitude will help him, not only in this course, but ultimately in life.”

Yvonne Ling - Fellow-Freelancer;  <- (Click for full letter)
(Then) Director Of Photography (DOP) of Cool Cheese Productions

“You’ve really been a great help and a motivation to us. Don’t think I’ve seen another 19 year-old who is so driven. Before you came, I was just telling Walter - What kind of 19 year-old can produce such good portfolio?”

What makes me special? (skill sets)

Music Background:

O-Level Music, Yamaha Grade 9 Piano, ABRSM Grade 7 Piano

Being musically trained helps me with my sense of rhythm and style of shooting knowing how the footage is going to be used. This especially helps me during live and post editing where having a sense of different styles of music and accompanied with my sense of rhythm better enhances my post-production treatment.

Started Young!

Since the age of 12 years-old!

With a keen interest, hunger to do more and fiery passion to do better every day; I feel lucky to be having fun while being able to learn more and see the world through my line of work! Everyday challenges and setbacks are also taken under my stride which equips me with the knowledge and experience to be prepared for what is to come!

Cameras:

Sony (Main & Own), Canon Mirrorless/Cine, Panasonic Camcorders, Nikon Mirrorless

I LOVEE my camera tech! Being updated with the camera market allows me to better understand the technology and specifications available! This allows me to know what would best suit the needs of the production as well as get the best out of the camera!
Being enthusiastic about my technical knowledge also helps me better advise my fellow DPs/CamOps who may not be as technical as me!

Editing:

Premiere Pro (Main), After Effects, Premiere Rush,
Lightroom, Adobe Bridge

During my journey in the media industry, I have come to meet many people from many backgrounds, with many talents and skill sets. But I realised that those dedicated to being an expert at ONE role may not see the bigger picture of the production.
Having met many especially during the Covid19 period who picked up videography from being a photographer; Thus, I realise having editing knowledge gives me an edge of knowing the shots and content to get to aid in the storytelling instead of just blindly shooting a montage of good shots.

Audio:

Sennheiser G4, Tentacle Sync/Track E, ZOOM Recorders, Rode/Sennheiser Boom

Knowledge of how to operate a boom mic, wireless transmitters and receivers as well as lapel recorders helps streamline filming/videography especially in small crews where there isn’t a dedicated sound-man.

Lighting:

Aputure, Godox, Nanlite, Astora

Knowing how lighting can set the mood of the scene, create depth as well as pop the subject will not only aid the film-making process with a small crew but also knowing how different styles of lighting can impact shots differently despite my event/broadcast background of having to adapt on the fly.

My Journey so far…

As a young child, I have always enjoyed watching documentaries to feed my curiosity for the world beyond academics. I remembered what peaked my curiosity was the dedication of nature documentary filmmakers who track a prey animal for a whole day just for it to be hunted down by a predator…

Broadcast Team

During my late pre-teen days growing up in church, there was a call for volunteers who wanted to learn how to operate broadcast cameras for an event as well as the expansion of the ministry. I seized the opportunity and signed up for it right away!
I soon grew to love the environment and challenges I had to take on especially being THE YOUNGEST in the team. Having to pick up as quickly as the seniors around me and remain competent in the team. Soon, I was given more opportunities to be part of church-level productions which were covered by older volunteers. That was also another mountain to climb, getting used to a new set of technology as well as working style and scale.
Being part of this broadcast family for the next 6 years was really fulfilling as I loved the adrenaline that came with having to react to everything live and in sync; especially when it came to live-directing 7-16 cameras at once!

2019 - 16 y/o
Events/Corporate

After my O-Levels, I knew I was headed for a Polytechnic course related to film-production. Besides my broadcast knowledge, I wanted to be better prepared for what was to come instead of just taking on another part-time job just like my friends. Thus I reached out for intern opportunities and found myself in a small events/corporate videography company.
Unlike the familiar broadcast environment, this internship forced me out of my comfort zones to interact with people outside the film crew especially when it came to directing clients and interviewees as well as having to travel around to different locations really opened up my eyes to the world around me.
Besides learning how to operate in a smaller crew (than broadcast), and taking on multiple roles, shooting events, corporate and weddings not only helped me explore different styles of videography, the importance of understanding the event’s message and purpose, but most importantly how to maintain and communicate with clients and employers!

2021 - 19 y/o
Cinematic/Documentaries

During my Polytechnic internship, having already tried broadcast, events, weddings and corporate videography styles, I wanted to explore more. I was approached by a friend of my Dad who had took notice of my keen interest in videography and the media industry. After some research on the company’s works, I decided to apply for the internship as they worked on Cinematics, Documentaries and TV Commercials. Headed by locally-renowned Creative-Director - Rickson Eleazar Tan and award-winning Post-Production Supervisor/Animator - Walter Goh, both whom worked on local and international favourites before. I knew I had a lot to learn from them!
Working with Cool Cheese Productions wowed me with what goes on behind-the-scenes of film and documentary sets. Behind their funky name are a bunch of dedicated and detailed individuals who are attentive to detail and strive to deliver a touching story. This are the bunch that got me in touch with many whom I still work with till date!
